Meesha Shafi Just Released A Statement For The First Time About Her Case With Ali Zafar

By Arslan Athar | 29 Apr, 2019

For the past couple of days, Ali Zafar has been appearing on multiple TV channels and giving interviews. This morning, he and his wife, Ayesha Fazli gave their side of the story and appealed to Meesha to either step forward or to ‘end this fiasco’. These multiple appearances have led to Meesha Shafi and Ali Zafar again becoming key talking points nationwide.

In response to Ali Zafar, Meesha’s legal team has just sent out a statement.

Nighat Dad, the main lawyer on the case tweeted this out.

The statement begins by dismissing Ali Zafar’s claim that he was exonerated by the court.

The statement reads that the ombudsmen dismissed the case of technical grounds; those being that Meesha and Ali were not in an employee-employer relationship. The statement further clarifies that this decision is being appealed in a higher court with ‘a higher chance of success’. It also clearly says that ‘no court nor forum has exonerated Ali Zafar’. Furthermore, the statement touches upon how the defamation suit was filed in order to silence Meesha and her voice.

The statement then goes on to emphasize that Meesha has cooperative with the courts and that she will appear in front of the court when summoned.

The insinuation from this is that Meesha has yet to be summoned by the court.

The second half of the statement spends a lot of time dissecting Ali Zafar’s comments about Meesha Shafi and Malala. His comments are called ‘shameful’ and ‘condemnable’. The statement ends by saying that, in the current situation, Meesha Shafi is determined to win this case, more than ever. ‘Ali Zafar is finally seeing some consequences of his actions.’

This statement has led to a lot of pro-Meesha sentiment on social media.

It is clear that this case is a very messy one. At the end of the day, you and I are not in the position of power to decide this case- the court is, and any harassment case is going to be hard to adjourn over.
