This Pakistani Girl's Post About How Women Are Trained Their Entire Lives For Marriage Is Getting A Lot Of Attention

By Sajeer Shaikh | 25 Jul, 2017

Pakistanis love the entire concept of marriage.

Think about it: we have an entire season dedicated to shaadis. Additionally, marriage is seen to be the driving force behind a lot of decisions made for and by women.

Agar larki doctor nahi bani toh shaadi kaun karega?”

“Beti, khaana pakaana nahi seekhogi toh sasural walon ko khush kaise rakhogi?”

Sound familiar?

However, what society fails to see is that shaadi may not necessarily be an end goal for women.  That’s why Instagrammer @dupattadiaries is speaking out about this very concept.

Shaadi holds a lot of significance in every society. At some point or another, it is seen as the way forward for any relationship. But does training our girls for it from a young age not make shaadi seem like the ultimate goal? Isn’t there a lot more to life than settling down? And honestly, does education not need to be a priority? Perhaps, instead of training girls for their weddings, we should focus more on their grooming and parhai, nahi?
