Prime Minister Imran Khan Just Paid Tribute To Fatima Jinnah On Women’s Day And Pakistanis Are Feeling Emotional

By Rameeza Ahmad | 8 Mar, 2019

Fatima Jinnah will always remain one of the most iconic Pakistani women.

The 8th of March marks International Women’s Day, and this year, spirits are incredibly high in Pakistan. Women all over the country are organizing marches to demonstrate their strength and demand equal rights from fellow Pakistanis as well as the government.

Prime Minister Imran Khan not only acknowledging the occasion of Women’s Day but paid tribute to Fatima Jinnah

His statement has evoked a lot of emotions from a lot of Pakistanis.

Imran Khan tweeted that he is committed to ensuring women have a secure environment in which they can prosper and thus help the country prosper as well.

People, especially women, were touched by the sweet tribute from the Prime Minister.

But there were a few who did not appreciate Imran Khan’s words, saying he only acknowledged Ms. Jinnah in light of her brother

And err… someone tried to distract the conversation by bringing up Mr. Khan’s personal life

Anyway, the sentiment the Prime Minister shared was sweet. Let’s hope his tenure leads for more laws being passed and implemented which make Pakistan a better place for women to live. While it is heartening to see the outpouring of support by Pakistani men and women alike on social media for International Women’s Day, it will not matter until and unless all of this support translates into actual changed behaviors and mindsets.

Let’s hope for the best! Happy International Women’s Day ladies and gents, don’t forget to smash the patriarchy!
