Recently, while covering an American Muslim journalist ‘Noor Tagouri’, Vogue mixed her up with the Pakistani actress ‘Noor Bukhari’

Noor Tagouri is known for her work in journalism. She’s an activist and lately, was featured in Playboy wearing her hijab. The latest edition of Vogue featured her but it mistakenly misidentified her.

The photo of Noor Tagouri was captioned as Noor Bukhari which was obviously a heart-breaking moment for the girl. Both of the ladies have made commendable contributions in their respective fields, Noor Tagouri has made her name in the field of journalism while Noor Bukhari is a known name within the Pakistani film industry.

Noor Tagouri posted her video where she opened the magazine featuring her, she looked pretty happy but upon reading the wrong caption her expression completely changed

She said, “I’m SO heartbroken and devastated. Like my heart actually hurts. I’ve been waiting to make this announcement for MONTHS. One of my DREAMS of being featured in American Vogue Magazine came true!! We finally found the issue in JFK airport. I hadn’t seen the photo or the text. Adam wanted to film my reaction to seeing this for the first time. But, as you can see in the video, I was misidentified as a Pakistani actress named Noor Bukhari. My name is Noor Tagouri, I’m a journalist, activist, and speaker.”

She went on to say, ” Misrepresentation and misidentification is a constant problem if you are Muslim in America,” she continued. “And as much as I work to fight this, there are moments like this where I feel defeated.”

She added to her statement by saying, “Mistakes like this happen because of carelessness, no fact checking, and a lack of understanding of other communities.” And further said, “I totally understand this was a mistake, but it’s so devastating because it’s a mistake that further drives the understanding that Muslim women in America are constantly misrepresented and misidentified.

Vogue issued an apology claiming that they understand that it’s a painful experience  for Noor Tagouri and they will try to be more careful in the future

They also recognized the larger issue of misidentification in media particularly related to non-white subjects. Moreover, they extended their apology to Noor Bukhari as well.

People were disappointed at how a famous magazine like Vogue could make such an irresponsible mistake

They further said that the two Noors are NOT interchangeable and they still loved Tagouri’s work

People also weren’t really happy with the apology that the magazine made and they went on to question Vogue if this was an ‘apology’
