Mehwish Hayat recently starred in a web series called ‘Enaaya’, which is basically about an aspiring singer who finds her big break in college amidst some ‘band drama’ and a budding love story.
The whole series was recently released online and it hasn’t left anyone impressed. Many said that the storyline was basic and predictable.

Fahad Mustafa also found fault with the show, but for other reasons.
According to the actor, the show is ‘trying to be cool’ by talking about sex so much. He even went as far as saying that ‘they should just call it porn’.
Nudity ,abusive language and just talking about sex is not content .lets not call it freedom of speech ! Actors selling themselves very cheaply its not cool at all .web series and short films needs to be a little dignified or they should just call it porn ..

There have been a lot of people who agree with him.
Absolutely. It's becoming an increasing trend where different so-called producers are coming up with filthiest content to earn some bucks.

There were calls made for a full ban.
And such content should be banned in Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Clearly, there has been an issue with the language in the web series.
ENAAYA the web series has used terrible language!
— Aiza (@aizashaukat29) January 27, 2019
There’s video proof to go with the claim!
No wonder Fahad Mustafa tweeted about unnecessary abuse. This has to be the worst piece of writing i have come across recently. Watch Wajahat Rauf's Voiceoverman interviews on youtube to understand why this is so shit. Zabardasti ke Sacred Games. pic.twitter.com/gnaUlar8bZ

This tweet did get a lot of people to start thinking about web series and online content, critically.
web series need that leeway to avoid censorship of issues& have the audience view the film as the director intended. I think the matter of “dignified” is debatable. Some people find Language Offensive, others object to item numbers. How do you please everyone? 🤷🏼♀️

This person put the blame on us.

But there were MANY people who called out Fahad.

‘Pehlay tum khud sudhar jao’

So many taanay!
Impressive Tweet…!!
Such a Spiritual person you are.
But still remember when someone asked you at a Film promotion: "Hania kidr bthy ge"
And you Politely nd Spiritually Replied: "Hania mri god main bthy ge"
Was'nt it abbusive ,?? 😋— Rana Adil🇵🇰 (@RanaAdi85458796) January 27, 2019
People were going easy on him.
didn't your movie had two kiss scene between you and mehwish??? Now when azfar and her are doing the same thing you did you are complaining. As if you are all clean and they are dirty. I am not defending mehwish or the whole enaya but first look at yourself and then point others

His own movies were brought up as a reference.
Agreed… Then I would like to mention that your movie actor in law has the same abusive language Sir 😣

People couldn’t help but see the irony in this situation.
Fahad Mustafa's tweet about nudity & profanity in the Pakistani entertainment industry is the perfect example of "sinners judging other sinners for sinning differently"
— NJ (@nj_tswcwriter) January 28, 2019
He was even called a hypocrite.
Namaloom afrad k baray kia khyal hai …Fahad Mustafa …this us call hypocrisy
— misbah (@polaybadshah) January 27, 2019
As his tweet began to gain more traction, Fahad Mustafa tried to ‘cover up’ and blame it on foreign content.
People’s responses under this tweet have been mixed- some went with it and blamed Indian content, while some still bashed ‘Enaya’. The timing of Fahad Mustafa’s tweet just seems too coincidental; ‘Enaya’ had just released a few days earlier.
I love you @wajahatrauf and you know it … my tweet was about foreign content and not yours people just trying to create an issue out of nothing … Best of luck for your upcoming film and what ever you do in future my friend 😍🇵🇰

Lastly, Wajahat Rauf put out a clarification about his web series and the claims of bad language.

This isn’t the first time a celebrity has spoken out against overt content and gotten backlash, a prime example is Hamza Ali Abbasi. There is a fair bit of hypocrisy involved with making large, sweeping statements about the content of films- the Pakistani entertainment industry is still small, so everyone has to do everything. Rather than pulling each other down for projects, they’re not part of, just support each other.
Clearly, Pakistani TV and Web content is received very differently by different people. Some deem something as offensive while others find no fault with it. The question is, whose sensibilities does a filmmaker go with? And also, what level of expression is too much? This is a HUGE debate that no one in the Pakistani entertainment is willing to take up.
