Pakistanis Are Really Disappointed After It Was Announced Uber Is Buying Careem For $3.1 Billion

By Zainab Ali | 25 Mar, 2019

You may have heard the news, Uber is about to buy Careem for $3.1 billion. No, this is not a drill.

Careem and Uber are almost every Pakistanis go-t0 when it comes to getting a ride. Everyone has different opinions on both the companies depending on their experiences, thus Pakistanis have mixed reactions to this deal, and ultimately turn to twitter to vent their feelings.

Some worry about its affects on Pakistan’s entrepreneur community

Many prefer Careem over Uber, and thus are afraid of the change of quality of Careem

Maybe it’s something to do with Careem being founded by a Pakistani and their trust in it more because of that? They believe that the company might not be run as efficiently as it has been, but rather, will downgrade.

Others are just plain against it, and even still rooting for Careem

There are also those that think Careem should have been bought for less

While others are worried for their safety

Careem is known to have a generally more proactive support system by Pakistani travelers because Uber’s online communication only method is a little jarring for some.

Most are sad… like super sad

People who may not have a vehicle depend on companies like Careem daily, so they have a hard time letting go. Although the app will remain, the owner behind this app will change, which ultimately may change the company.

Did we mention how upset people are?

Hey, on the bright side, we have a cute new name?

More on the bright side:

So, here’s saying goodbye to Careem, I guess
