Things to Consider Before You Move Abroad in 2023

By Aam Nawab | 8 Sep, 2023

Over 450000 qualified Pakistanis decided to move abroad in 2023 and a considerable number of people are planning to move abroad because of numerous reasons that we all probably already know.

And if you’re one of those who have started reading Mohsin Hamid’s “The Reluctant Fundamentalist”, I really hope you read it till the end. Don’t make up your mind to move abroad right after reading this quote:

“This is a dream come true. Princeton inspired me in the feeling that life was a film in which I was the star and everything was possible.”

IELTS

Are you planning to move to the United Kingdom, Australia, or Kaneda for studies or work? IELTS is what you’ve to be really concerned about first. Hope you score eight but six band score six works too. And if that seems like too much, then Middle East is still an option with thousands of job opportunities for you.

Homesickness

It’s very normal and that’s why you might as well feel homesick right after you move abroad in 2023. But it shouldn’t come in the way of achieving your dreams. After all, life isn’t all about always staying in one place.

Being Independent

Chores, bills, and groceries, you’ll be responsible for all because your manzooran baaji and driver uncle will not come along. Being Independent will not only teach you to manage your expenses but also remind you of all the hard work people working in your homes do for you.

Living Alone

As much as you crave privacy right now, you might really want to be around annoying individuals when you go abroad. Annoying refers to siblings, younger cousins, and phupo for some. Alright, you definitely won’t miss phupo but what about your siblings? Staying alone is fun. But wait when there’s a special occasion all you can do is video call your best friend and pretend you’re not emotional.

“I would soon be gone, leaving my family and my home behind, and this made me a kind of coward in my eyes, a traitor.”

Don’t worry, it’s just an excerpt from the book. Mohsin Hamid lives here and there as well. Good luck!
