If you’re a Muslim between the ages of 21-80, you have probably once come across a sermon by televangelist Zakir Naik. He was famous for knowing and quoting different verses of the Quran by heart which he felt were relevant to the situation.
Dr. Zakir first got involved in trouble when in 2016 Bangladesh and his home country, India banned his channel Peace TV, citing the channel’s promotion of extremism
This move was triggered when it was found that the terrorist behind the 2016 Dhaka attack might have been heavily influenced by Naik’s speeches. Since then Zakir Naik found himself under more scrutiny than ever before. And this is what might have lead to a full-blown investigation of him and his business practices. And now the Enforcement Directorate’s Money Laundering probe against Naik is gaining steam

Zakir Naik is evading arrest as he is said to have absconded to Malaysia.
Najmudin Sathak, a close aide of Zakir Naik has already been arrested for his alleged role in helping Naik launder millions of Indian rupees. Apparently, Zakir Naik has bought a total of 20 flats in Mumbai and Pune from money which was from his Islamic Research Foundation (IRF). The IRF is supposed to be an organization established by Naik for the welfare of Muslims around the world and runs on donations. The money that the organization got from people was used by Naik to purchase various properties in India.
And this is allegedly just the tip of the iceberg since he is said to have been doing this for several years through his different businesses which include his TV channel.
All of his properties and businesses are currently under investigation as well as his family members. A lot of the properties Zakir Naik bought were under the names of his wife, son and even niece.
But honestly, what a total mind fuck? Zakir Naik has been looked up to by so many Muslims around the world for years. But his fall from grace has been a long time coming. His alleged shady business practices and hate mongering narrative are incredibly serious accusations and hopefully, the investigation will lead to a just verdict in the end.
