Shahzeb Khanzada Urged Parents To Teach Their Children About Sexual Abuse And That's Exactly What Pakistan Needs

By Alveena Jadoon | 13 Jan, 2018

In light of the recent incident, a lot of cases are coming up. Cases of child sexual abuse are coming up everyday. What all of this has done is highlighted how common the issue is, the lack of debate around it and the failure of the authorities to implement the laws around it.

Another aspect that this has highlighted is that abuse just does not happen outside the house

Such instances also begin from our own homes. We teach our children about the horrors that lie beyond the walls of our homes, but nothing about what goes on inside.

Shahzeb Khanzada once again highlighted this important aspect about abuse in his show

He mentioned how such cases have become so common. This is why it is important to educate your children about them and not shy away from the topic. Our children should come before everyone else and that involves talking to them about stuff that we feel uncomfortable with.

The majority of all sexual abuse cases involve close relatives of the child and people we trust

Those who abuse children do not see the difference between family and strangers. Out of respect, we tend to stay mum about these cases but that ends up scarring our own children. This means a lifetime of trauma, especially because we choose to snub the matter and carry on relations with those people.

Many reached out to him and pointed out how the right way to go about this is to talk to your child

This is issue is larger than our notions of shame and familial ties. It is about protecting our children in the best possible way and the way to do that is by talking to them. If they don’t know how to respond and react in such situations, they will go along with it. And it is very likely that the abuser will threaten the child. Nobody wants their child to be in such a position, and for that we need to stop shying away from the topic.
